What's Taking Over the Old Bed Bath & Beyond on Lane Avenue?

The largest empty storefront at The Shops on Lane Avenue is being divided. The former Bed Bath & Beyond at 1675 W. Lane Ave. closed in 2023 after the retailer's bankruptcy. Since then it has had temporary tenants, including a Spirit Halloween. Now it is under renovation for several permanent tenants instead of one replacement anchor.

The tenants announced so far are a Neapolitan pizza restaurant, a wellness studio built around saunas and cold therapy, and a fitness studio. None of them sells household goods. That fits the rest of the center. Of the new names tied to The Shops on Lane Avenue this year, most offer food, fitness or personal care, and only two sell merchandise.

Who has signed for the old box

Columbus Business First reported in August that the former Bed Bath & Beyond space is being split for multiple tenants. WhatNow Columbus followed up on Aug. 27 and named three of them:

  • Piccolo Buco, a Rome-inspired pizza restaurant from the team behind Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurant.
  • Pause, a wellness studio. Its Upper Arlington page lists contrast therapy, infrared sauna, float therapy, LED light therapy, NAD+/Niagen NR and IV treatments, cryotherapy and compression therapy.
  • Solidcore, a resistance-based, high-intensity, low-impact workout concept.

The landlord's own leasing plan adds detail and one open question. Kimco Realty owns the center. Its site plan shows Piccolo Buco at 7,629 square feet and Pause at 3,242 square feet. A neighboring 3,838-square-foot unit is labeled "Barry's," and Solidcore isn't on the plan at all. So the fitness tenant in this part of the building is still unsettled in public records. The Solidcore report comes from WhatNow and Business First. Solidcore hadn't answered WhatNow's questions about timing when that story ran.

The same plan also lists a separate 16,223-square-foot space as "Available." That's larger than Piccolo Buco, Pause and the Barry's unit put together, so the center still has a sizable space to fill.

A pizza restaurant nearly the size of the new Anthropologie

Piccolo Buco is the anchor of the three, and its size explains why. NBC4 reported on July 30 that the restaurant signed a lease for about 7,600 square feet. For comparison, The Arlington Grille planned for Kingsdale is described as 5,500 square feet with seats for 240 guests. Piccolo Buco's space is roughly 2,000 square feet bigger than that. It's also not far from the roughly 9,000 square feet Anthropologie is taking a few doors down.

The concept started with one visit. Cooper's Hawk founder Tim McEnery went to the original Piccolo Buco near Rome's Trevi Fountain in 2019. There he met owner Luca Issa, and the two later worked together to bring the restaurant to the United States. The first U.S. location opened in Oak Brook, Illinois, in 2022. There are now three restaurants in Illinois and two in Florida. Upper Arlington will be the first in Ohio.

The menu centers on modern Neapolitan-style pizzas with tall, airy crusts that stay crisp at the edges. It's made with San Marzano-style tomatoes, Italian "00" flour and specialty cured meats, and also includes antipasti, pasta and desserts. The wine list draws on Cooper's Hawk and adds Italian varietals such as Chianti and Pinot Grigio. Each dish comes with a recommended pairing.

You'll be waiting a while for it. Kimco expects the restaurant to open sometime in 2027 and hasn't announced an exact date.

"We are excited to welcome them to the center in 2027 and look forward to sharing more details in the future," said Ali Runkel, Kimco Realty's director of real estate, in NBC4's July report.

Seven new names, and two of them sell merchandise

Taken one at a time, each of these announcements is just a store opening. Taken together, they show what the center is turning into. Here are the new tenants tied to The Shops on Lane Avenue in 2026 through local reporting, the center's own directory and Kimco's plan:

  1. Piccolo Buco, restaurant
  2. CAVA, restaurant, at 1603 W. Lane Ave.
  3. Pause, wellness and recovery
  4. Solidcore, fitness, according to Business First and WhatNow, with a Barry's-labeled unit on Kimco's plan
  5. goGLOW, spray tan salon, at 1727 Lane Ave.
  6. Anthropologie, apparel, home and bridal, at 1705 W. Lane Ave.
  7. Warby Parker, eyewear, which the center's homepage marks "Now Open"

Only the last two are traditional retail. The rest are places to eat, work out or book an appointment. On the larger end of Lane Avenue, the old home-goods store's floor area is being reused for those same purposes.

The retail arrivals still matter, and Anthropologie is the one with the most local weight. Columbus Navigator reports that the store will include Anthropologie Weddings, with bridal apparel and accessories that aren't carried at the Easton store at 4235 The Strand. It will also be the brand's second Columbus location now that its Short North shop inside The Joseph has closed. WhatNow says the bridal side carries gowns, bridesmaids' dresses, accessories, party dresses and wedding décor.

Just off the center, Fox in the Snow added another food stop to the street. Its seventh café opened on Lane Avenue on July 11, and the first 150 guests got a one-day-only golden peach galette.

What's open this fall, and what's still behind a sign

As of Oct. 4, 2026, here's where each tenant stands.

Open now. Warby Parker is listed as open on the center's homepage. Fox in the Snow has been serving on Lane Avenue since July.

Taking bookings, status unclear. goGLOW's own Upper Arlington page lists hours and lets you book appointments and memberships at 1727 Lane Ave. The center's homepage still calls it "Coming Soon." It's worth calling before you go.

Expected in 2026, not yet open. CAVA confirmed the Lane Avenue location to NBC4 in May for "sometime this year." The center's directory still labeled it "Coming Soon" on Oct. 4.

Expected in 2027. Piccolo Buco is expected sometime in 2027, according to Kimco. Columbus Navigator forecasts Anthropologie for spring 2027. WhatNow says late spring, and the company says the exact date will come closer to opening.

No date yet. Pause appears on the brand's 38-location locator as "Coming Soon." Solidcore hasn't announced a timeline.

The same pattern up Tremont Road at Kingsdale

Lane Avenue isn't the only Upper Arlington center where a former chain space is getting a sit-down restaurant. At Kingsdale, the former Houlihan's at 3150 Tremont Road closed in January. Rick Doody's NCR Ventures plans to turn it into The Arlington Grille, with indoor seating, a covered patio and a bar. Doody called Upper Arlington "a special community" and said he wants the restaurant to feel familiar. NBC4's June report said it would open "later this year." We haven't found a public confirmation that it has opened as of early October, so treat that date as a target.

Kingsdale and Tremont Center already have a weekly fixture that doesn't depend on any lease. The Upper Arlington Farmers Market runs Wednesdays, 3 to 6 p.m., on Dorset Road by Tremont Center through the fall, with 30 to 40 vendors expected, according to the City.

A few other dates coming up this month:

  • Jazz at the Barn, Thursday, Oct. 8, 6:30 to 8 p.m., 4395 Carriage Hill Lane. It's free and features Ron Holmes – Eclecticism. The City suggests bringing a chair or blanket and a picnic.
  • Golden Bear Scare, Oct. 19 to 21, 6 to 9 p.m., hosted by UACA at Smith Nature Park, 1270 Fishinger Road.
  • Navratri & Diwali Celebration, Saturday, Nov. 14, 6 to 10 p.m., at the Bob Crane Community Center. Tickets are $15, and children five and under get in free.

By this time next year, the former Bed Bath & Beyond should have a pizza oven, a cold plunge and a workout floor, and Anthropologie should be open a few doors away.
